Madonna is flying to Malawi next week in what may be the final court ruling on whether or not she can finish adopting her son, adorable little David Banda. Madonna began the adoption process back in 2006 after first meeting David in a local orphanage in Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world. It is estimated that there are approximately 1 million orphans in the area, many of which are unfortunately infected with the HIV virus. In February of this year, Patricia Kaliati, the Malawian Information Minister, praised Madonna's efforts to raise awareness on gathering support for orphans in the area. She went on to say it would be wrong for the government to deny Madonna's adoption of little David.
Madonna will be flying in next Tuesday, as reported by a senior official at Lilongwe International Airport. The official confirmed that her jet was cleared for landing on April 8th.
The main controversy over the adoption deals with the current laws that ban non-residents from adopting children in Malawi. Thankfully, Malawi's government is amending its adoption laws; to issue the documents not only to new born children, but also to all of the country’s 12 million citizens. Officials say the move will also reduce confusion in adoption cases - such as Madonna’s adoption of a Malawian boy.
