Other Reviews of "4 Minutes" Video: From Daily Mail and Metro

Most of the reviews I've seen by now, seem to focus on the surface of Madonna's new video, without really even trying to dig deeper into it. I guess it is understandable - and really boring. Just goes to show just how much the reviewer's inial feeling and opinion about the performer in question effects the outcome - it sings a loud song of how little time they actually took to watch and understand what they saw. Here are some reviews:

Daily Mail, without failing to mention the star's age, declared that Madonna's new reinvention now requires a little digital trickery, claiming she has turned on to soft focus, gentle lighting and perhaps a little airbrushing to get her look right. The next thing they mention is her stripping in the video, in front of Justin who is almost half his age. *I hear a bird singing into my ear: she says, "irrelevant". Another thing they point out is her corset, which is said to be almost a replica of the Jean-Paul Gaultier corset she wore in 1990. *To point out, the only thing slightly similar between the two is the colour of the corset and not even that if you look closely enough.

Metro.co.uk's review is not any more insightful, even if it's "a bit" more kinder. The opening line in this one is "Madonna has shown she can still strip, split and rip...", later adding "she still has it". However, they don't forget to mention that she "defies her age" by bounding over colourful parked cars in a car hop competition with Justin. They end the review story pleading, "tell us if you think the mother of three is too old for all this?".

Boy how I felt ancient reading the reviews above - they are so focused on the surface you can't get any more surface than that. Madonnathon's review seems like an in-depth analysis compared to these. *Not saying it is perfect, but at least there's a bit more effort put into it!
